Even if this is considered, it should be discussed following the 2011 season. GM's have planned for the current rules for this season.
Not that I'm necessarily against trading picks, but one argument to keep the current ban:There is a lot of concern going around on new GM's coming in and destroying a team then quitting, leaving future GM's with little or nothing to work from. Preventing the trading of picks ensures that a new GM will have at least a full slate of picks to work from in the upcoming draft.
The other benefit of trading picks is it allows teams to get more value out of the draft. Suppose a team has the 5th overall pick and see nothing that he likes, he should be able to trade down or something to maximize the value.
i have been a strong opponent of trading picks, but it does make it a lot more fun to do so. I would have no problem going back to the old ways of doing things. But i do think every team should have to keep their first rounder.
