It appears as if we have a majority for implementing the WC change seamlessly this season. :judge:

Of the two options posed above I would rather go with option 2. That being said, I do not think this would be easy to mimic the one game playoff so keeping it as is could be a better option.

Wildcard round is effectively a matchup between the 4th and 5th best teams within the last week of the regular season. :judge:

Are the Rangers facing the Red Sox this week to determine which of the 2 WC teams will move on to the playoffs?

Same question for the Nationals and the Astros in the NL.

Is the regular season effectively already over?

My interpretation is that this week is used to determine both which 2 teams would be the two wild card teams AND which of the two wild card teams would qualify for the playoffs.

For this week, if :OAK: to go 0-8 and score 100 points, :TEX: to go 8-0, and :BOS: goes 4-4 and scores 200 points then :TEX: and :BOS: would both make the playoffs along with :NYY: and :CLE:

NL is much more open :STL: and :LAD: are in for sure, the wildcard spots and NL east is still up for grabs.

Howe is correct.  The winners of the wildcards and the final regular season standings are decided this week.  Essentially, the regular season standings are decided first, and then whichever of the two wildcard teams had the highest score this week will advance.
