I like the draft idea because because you dont have to pass them through FA. I am going through this on FNHL right now trying to re-build a crappy islanders team. Its a 30 team league with 15 prospects. 4 round draft that can only be this years draft class. I have had to do a ton of research to try and find some diamond in the rough prospects to bring on my team but have to pass them through FA. Inevitably I always have one or two GM's that I am fairly sure had never heard of the guy look them up and start up bidding them because they are like "holy crap" this guy looks good. I just hate doing all the work just to have someone come in and up bid them. The draft idea would reward the effort of looking up and finding some of these guys. I'm torn on the idea of making all prospect eligible players available to draft in the supplemental. On one hand it would add to our draft strategy. On the other it would thin out our FA pool. A guy like Mark Stone might get a lot of attention in FA and perhaps a nice signing bonus or a full NHL contract. I like that some prospects are in the FA mix, especially now that we have a 5 bid limit and have to use our bids more strategically. Right now I'm on the 'nay' side of this idea, but again, if the majority is for it then it's on the table.
I hijacked this from Cho in the questions forum. The Penguins wanted to increase the size of our minor league roster.I would say I am against increasing the size if our yearly draft continues to be based on just the NHL draft class for that year.Although I would like to increase the size if we expand our yearly draft to not only incoming rookies, but any unclaimed player that qualifies for one of our prospect contracts. Lets say a guy like Mark Stone wasn't currently owned by one of us and our draft comes around. He is still a rookie signed with an NHL team, but from a previous draft year. He had a great year in the minors and internationally and would draw much attention in our draft this year. Basically drafting late bloomers from previous draft classes. This idea was kicked around by a snugerud originally.
